Changing the channel on disability representation
People with disabilities make up the world’s largest minority group, yet less than 3% of characters in advertising and entertainment have a disability. This lack of representation has reinforced a culture where people with disabilities feel stigmatized, invisible, and denied equal opportunities. The Calgary Society for Persons with Disabilities wanted to right this wrong. With our help, they launched the Visibility for Disability campaign—a call to change how we see disability by changing what we see.
We put out an open letter calling for greater representation for persons with disabilities and invited content creators to sign.
And created a website to educate, provide resources on hiring actors with disabilities, and let people support the cause.
